Get to Know Nordic Ware Cookware

Nordic Ware Chef's Braiser Pan
Nordic Ware Cookware was founded in 1946 by H. David Dalquist and his wife Dotty with an investment of only $500. Today, the company is still family-owned, and continues to be known for its high quality and innovative products. What makes Nordic Ware special?

Nordic Ware, Creators of the Bundt Pan

Even if you’re not familiar with the Nordic Ware Cookware Brand, chances are that you’ve heard of their flagship product – the Bundt pan. Nordic Ware developed the Bundt pan in 1950 for members of the Minneapolis Chapter of the Hadassah Society, who were trying to reproduce the kuglehof pan used to bake a classic German coffee cake. The ring shape of the pan gave the coffee cake a festive look that the Hadassah Society wanted to recreate.

The Bundt pan was a hit, not only with the Hadassah Society but also with the American public. In 1960, it was America’s best-selling cake pan, but it really took off in 1966 when it was used to create the Tunnel of Fudge cake that won the Pillsbury Bake-Off. When cooks across the country heard about the prize-winning cake, they wanted to own the pan that made it possible. Bundt pans became so popular that Pillsbury even created a line of prepackaged cake mixes designed especially for them.

Nordic Ware Revolutionizes Microwave Cooking

As microwave cooking began in 1978, Nordic Ware turned to helping cooks better utilize the new technology. The result was the revolving microwave tray that has become ubiquitous today. The automatic turntable allowed food to cook more evenly, reducing the chance of cold spots or burning. Nearly 30 years later, this innovation continues to be a top seller for Nordic Ware.

Founder David Dalquist was known for saying, “If you can sell it, you can make it,” and this attitude shows in the number of innovations that Nordic Ware has created. Throughout its six decades of existence, Nordic Ware has been involved with many different aspects of technology, from developing non-stick coatings for DuPont to using plastic molding technology to create cookware that could transition from the oven to the microwave. They were among the first to create ceramic filters for sinks to create purer water direct from the tap, and they have continued to produce one convenience after another for cooks, from aluminum bakeware with its own covers to non-stick metallic cookware designed to be used on the stovetop, in the oven, or in the microwave.

Nordic Ware Cookware Today

Today, Nordic Ware maintains its commitment to make cooking more convenient and more enjoyable. If you are looking for high-quality cookware that goes beyond the norm, Nordic Ware products could be the answer.
