Magic Mango Splitter – Great Cookware Accessory

magic-mango-splitterI was introduced to Mangoes when I moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1981.

Well Aussies rave over Bowen Mangoes in particular, and a well meaning friend brought over a box of them  for us to try.

In my opinion – totally over-rated, can’t stand the perfumed taste or the mess they make when you are trying to eat them.

Apparently the best way to eat them is in the bathtub and then at least you can get cleaned up as soon as you have finished.

In fact the only way I will have mango is when it has been juiced and mixed with orange juice and occasionally I will have mango ice cream. Okay so maybe I am becoming a  just little won over by the taste.

So why am I writing about this handy little gadget.  Well although I am not a fan of the mango, my entire family love them. So when I saw this mango splitter from Oxo Good Grips I thought “you beauty”.

Finally, a way to slice a mango, maneuvering around the odd-shaped seed so you get as much of the sweet flesh as possible. The mango splitter removes the mango seed and slices the fruit in half with one simple press. Simply stand the mango upright with the narrow side facing you, and place the OXO Mango Splitter atop the fruit. Press down on the soft, wide handles to split the mango instantly.

Now once you have the seed removed you can simply remove flesh from the peel using one of two easy options.

Either use a sharp knife to score each half in a tic-tac-toe pattern, then turn the skin inside-out and eat or cut the cubes from the skin.

Or, use a large spoon to scoop the flesh out of the skin. Slice the halves and eat fresh, or sprinkle with sugar and put them under the broiler for a few minutes to enjoy a unique, refreshing dessert!

The Oxo mango cutter features sharp, sturdy, stainless steel blades and soft, cushioned handles and it is dishwasher-safe for added convenience.

Helpful Tip: For balance, trim the bottom of the mango with a knife, prior to placing it in the mango cutter, so that it will stand up straight. Otherwise the mango has a tendency to roll over.

At last a product that does work, so if you love mangoes and don’t like the mess associated with them, then this gadget is for you.

And where do I get this magic little tool:

For anyone interested in the history of the Mango I suggest you take a look at Fresh Mangos.com. This site can tell you everything you need to know about mangoes and there are lots and lots of recipes.
