I haven't had a problem with overheating with my Rival, but the stonewear cracked. Whether it was user error or not...I still use it though.

Becky,

I too have experienced the same problems with BOTH of my Rival crock pots. Even on the low setting, the food boils, the codensation builds, and the lids sputters. I cannot cook anything while I am away because every recipe I have tried has been overcooked- even on the low/10 hour setting. I have tried to improvise by cooking on the "warm" setting instead for 8-10 hours, only to have food unevenly and undercooked. Very frustrated with this product. I do not understand how anyone could have a positive review. I may just have to invest in an expensive brand/model in order to achieve what I need a crock pot to do.. cook a good meal while I am work. I feel it defeats the purpose of "crock potting" if I have to be there to monitor the cooking process for fear of scalding food. :(

I really detest my Rival crockpot/slow cooker. I had an old Rival and when it was time to purchase a new slow cooker I immediately went out and bought another Rival. The new one sputters condensation all over my counters and since it sputters so hard the moisture makes it over the counter onto the floor. Whenever I use the unit I need to lay out paper towels around the unit to catch the droplets of water. Thinking that the unit was a manufacture defect I called Rival who was going to send me out a new unit but it was past the warranty period so I waited for a sale purchased another one and tried it out. Same problem. I called Rival back and another representative told me that the lid is now constructed so that steam & yes condensation could escape because they found that too much pressure was built up if the lid was tighter. The representative told me that she used foil to cover the top of the unit and then placed the lid on top of the foil. Well I tried that and the lid rattles more than before. Sometimes I feel the lid is going to blow. I'm not confident to leave the unit going while I'm away and when I remove the lid I have to be careful or will get burned by the steam. I'm wondering if anyone else out there is having the same problem. I'm not using the cooker because the lid rattles and spreads water/condensation/meat juices everyone and with the foil I would definitely not recommend that to anyone. It's too dangerous. I would like to use a slow cooker but do not know which unit to buy to replace my Rival. Any hints out there?
