I know this is something I am guilty of quite often. And consequently the lid slips and I lose some of the food into the sink. After all my years cooking you would think I would learn. This is a great idea. Anolon have developed a saucepan that allows you to strain food without using a colander.

The Anolon Advanced 3-1/2-Quart Covered Straining Saucepan has a lid that is see through and is fitted with a deep rim which is fitted with straining holes. So to get this to work you simply need to line up the part of the lid that has the the holes with the pouring spout on the saucepan itself.   The lid has two different sizes of strainer, one for straining large items such as pasta and vegetables and one for straining small food such as rice.

When you are pouring out the liquid, just be sure  that you hold on to the lid itself.

What We Like

  • It is made from heavy gauge anodized aluminum so it’s strong, durable and heats and cooks evenly.
  • The handles are made from 18/10 stainless steel and are covered in silicone so they stay cool and are easy to grip.
  • This saucepan is oven safe to 400F.
  • It has a non-stick coating so foods won’t stick and clean up is easy.
  • There are drain holes on both sides of the lid – large on one side and smaller on the other.
  • The lid turns so that you lock in the steam while the food is cooking.

Some Things to Consider:

  • It can be a bit heavy when full so it might be a bit much for someone with arthritis or weak muscles to try and drain the liquid.
  • It’s not dishwasher safe. But when you see how easy it is to clean up you wont find that a problem.  Food just doesn’t stick to the surface so clean up is a breeze.
