REVIEW: Le Creuset 2.25-Quart Saucier Pan

Le Creuset 2.5 qt saucierI have to admit I am a bit of a fan of Le Creuset cookware. It’s strong, durable and looks so damn good. The only drawback is that it is a little pricey but these pans will last you a lifetime if looked after correctly.

The Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Saucier Pan is a beautiful piece of cookware. It’s available in a variety of colors including red (pictured) cobalt blue , kiwi, cherry, dune, dijon, flame, chestnut and Caribbean blue.

This saucier pan is made from enamel cast iron. This enables you to get all the benefits of cast iron but without the hassle of maintaining it by having to season it on a regular basis.

Cast iron heats evenly and retains heat for longer periods than most other cookware materials.

What We Like

  • It’s oven safe (including the knobs on the lid) to 400F so will go straight from stove top to oven without having the hassle of transferring foods to an oven proof dish.
  • It works on gas, electric, ceramic and induction stove tops.
  • The pan is dishwasher safe.

Other Things to Consider

  • This is a heavy piece of cookware but this is nothing new to cast iron cookware.

REVIEW: Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup

Pyrex 2 Cup Measuring CupThis would have to be one of the most commonly used items in my kitchen. I use it daily. It has a multitude of uses and is not just for measuring liquids. I use it to mix ingredients, to melt ingredients in the microwave and to add ingredients to foods cooking on the stove.

I’ve had mine for years and I know that it will last the rest of my lifetime assuming I don’t drop it. Even then these things are so tough that I think it would break my tiled floor before it actually broke…I’m not going to test it though.

I think just about every kitchen in the western world has at least once piece of Pyrex. It’s strong, durable and lasts the distance and it is made in the US.

This Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup is one you use again and again and for the price you really can’t lose.

The measurements are in metric on one side so that’s in milliliters and on the other side the measurements are in cups and ounces. This is great if you have a recipe that you have found on the net that is only in metric so all bases are covered.

Pyrex is non-porous so it doesn’t absorb food odors or flavors. And foods won’t stain the surface.

It is also microwave safe, fridge and freezer safe and dishwasher safe.

I can’t really find anything bad to say about these Pyrex Measuring Cups except that they are a little more weighty than plastic measuring cups.

I highly recommend it.

This pan is made from heavy gauge aluminized steel making it strong and durable and resists warping.

The nonstick inner surface combined with the springform release ensures cakes turn out easily. It also makes clean up a breeze.

What I like most is the that the pan is dishwasher safe although being nonstick hand washing should not be difficult.

You will enjoy making cheesecake in this pan as it ensures that the mixture doesn’t leak.

Steaming vegetables is a much healthier alternative to boiling foods to an inch of their life and removing all the valuable nutrients.

You will love having one of these Oster 5712 Electronic 2-Tier 6.1-Quart Food Steamers in your home because not only does it steam vegetables but also a myriad of other foods including fish, eggs, dim sims and even rice.

I must admit I haven’t tried rice in my steamer but I am going to give it a go now that I know that it can do it.

What We Like

  • It includes an egg holder for making soft or hard boiled eggs.
  • It comes with two steaming trays
  • It has a delay function of up to 12 hours.
  • It has a 95 minute timer which is great for a steamer. Some only have 45 minutes max.
  • It also has a keep warm setting so you can keep the food warm while you are preparing the rest of your meal.
  • The two steaming trays allow you to cook two or more different foods at the one time.
  • You can add water without having to remove the steaming trays. This is great if you find half way through steaming something that it needs more water.

Other Things to Consider

  • The parts can only be hand washed although these steamers are relatively easy to clean.
  • It will take up a bit of space when stored.
