REVIEW: Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner

presto-pressure-cooker-cannerIf you are seriously into canning your own homemade foods then a pressure canner is really the only safe way to go. Basically using one of these helps you avoid food poisoning. This is particularly so for low acid foods like meats and most vegetables where higher temperatures are required to kill harmful bacteria. These temperatures wouldn’t be possible by simply immersing jars in boiling water.

The Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canneris a heavy duty canner with an impressive 23qt capacity. It holds up to 24 half pint, 20 pint or 7 quart canning jars.

What We Like

  • It includes a canning rack to keep jars from touching the bottom of the pot and allows liquids to circulate underneath them.
  • You are not limited to using this simply as a canner. This also serves as a pressure cooker. And It comes with a handy 50 recipe booklet.

Some Things to Consider:

  • You can’t immerse the lid in water.
  • This is a heavy pot and with the addition of several cans becomes even heavier. You’ll need good muscles for this one.
  • It’s quite big so will take up a bit of space when storing.

REVIEW: Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan

Norpro Cheesecake PanCheesecake would have to be one of my favorite desserts and I love those mini cheesecakes that you get in an all-you-can-eat buffet. For some reason the smaller they are the more you can eat…at least, that’s my theory.

The Norpro Mini Cheesecake Pan gives you the ability to make your own mini cheesecakes in your own home. But you are not limited to only using this pan for cheesecakes. It is equally suited to mini quiches, hors d’oeuvres, cakes and muffins.

The pan makes up to 12 mini cheesecakes and each cup measures 2 inches by 2 inches and  1 3/4 inches deep.

The non-stick coating ensures foods release easily and clean up is a breeze as it is also dishwasher safe.

Plus the bottom of each cup has a removable base so to remove the cheesecake you simply push up from the bottom of the pan and out it comes. This makes it so easy to create well molded cheesecakes that won’t fall apart when you remove them from the pan.

The pan also has riveted handles which is not always found in a pan like this but this ensures you don’t lift the pan from the bottom and inadvertently push up on the removable plates causing foods to spill out.

It also comes with a mini-cheesecake recipe which suits the pan perfectly. It might be worth starting with this recipe to try out the pan and then work towards your own recipes.

Mauviel Copper Cookware Potato Steamer

mauviel-potato-steamerQuite apart from the fact that copper cookware looks absolutely fabulous it is also practical.

Cook your potatoes with this beautiful copper potato steamer from Mauviel.

The Mauviel Cupretam Pour La Table Potato Steamer is simple to use, all you need to do is add water to the lower bowl and place the steamer on the stove top burner.

What happens next – well when the water reaches a mid-level boiling point the steam begins to form and rises through the main container holding the potatoes and softening them until they are steamed to perfection. Take the steamed potatoes out of the steamer and add your favorite topping to serve.

This method of cooking potatoes is much quicker than baking them and much healthier for you than fried potatoes.

The potato steamer is part of the Mauviel Cupretam Pour la Table range of cookware which is beautiful enough to serve from the stovetop to the table. The potato steamer has cast-iron or bronze side handles attached by sturdy copper rivets.

The Mauviel potato steamer is not suitable to use on an induction hob, but can safely be used on your standard gas or electric stove top.

It is recommended that The Mauviel Potato Steamer be hand washed with mild dish soap.

Le Creuset 7 Piece Utensil Set with Enamel Ceramic CaddyLe Creuset make some of the best kitchen related products on the market today. The quality of their products combined with their good looks make this brand very popular amongst home cooks.

The Le Creuset 7-Piece Utensil Set with Enameled Stoneware Crock is gorgeous to look at with its bold deep colors of blue, red or dijon. I particularly like the red which is strong and vibrant and will really make a statement in any kitchen. The colors actually match the colors of the Le Creuset range of enamel cookware so if you already own a piece or two then you can choose a color to coordinate.

What’s Included

  • 1 mini spatula
  • 1 small spatula
  • 1 medium spatula
  • 1 large spoon
  • 1 jumbo slotted spoon
  • 1 silicone basting brush
  • 1 ceramic crock

What We Like

  • The colors are deep and rich looking.
  • The heavy ceramic caddy ensures that it won’t fall over when the utensils are placed in it.
  • It has a limited lifetime warranty.
  • The silicone heads are removable so clean up is a lot easier.
  • They are perfect for using with non-stick cookware.
  • The caddy can also be used as a wine cooler or as a vase for flowers.

What We Don’t Like

  • Be aware that the colors you see pictured on the Le Creuset ceramic caddy may differ to what you actually get as the glaze pattern fades from light to dark from top to bottom. You may receive a deeper color to what is pictured or a lighter color, so be prepared.
  • This is a bit pricey for a utensil set but you can’t beat it for style and beauty.
