And basically the reasoning behind having a dish that is specifically made for tarte tatin is that it can be used to caramelize the apples on the stove top before placing in the oven to finish it off. So it saves you having to transfer the apple bit into another oven proof dish.

This is a very versatile pan however and you wouldn’t want to limit yourself to just cooking tarte tatin in this. Since the Le Creuset Cherry Tarte Tatin Dish can be used on the stove top you can pretty much cook anything in it but it is particularly good for browning or sauteing foods. And you could use this in the oven for any type of pie as well as quiches, cakes and any oven baked dishes.

You can also use this for marinating meats or even just as a serving tray for  h’ordeurves.
