Some of you may have read my recent blog post on the Tovolo In Mug Infuser. Well today I went out and bought one – actually I bought two – one for me and one for Wanda as I know that she loves tea as well.Well I have to say that I am extremely happy with my purchase. What I like most is that it is a solid piece of equipment. I have had infusers in the past – you know the type I mean where you purchase the mug and infuser together. Invariably the infuser falls to bits quite quickly so you are left with just the mug.
This one however is solidly built. I know on my previous infuser purchases the actual strainer part is generally soft. It’s like a soft metal netting so you can squish it together with your fingers which is generally why it falls to bits so quickly. This one is strong – you can’t squish it together.
I tried it out for the first time today at work so no more teabags for me. I went and bought some loose leaf tea – a nice Earl Gray and a green tea. I put in half a teaspoon of the Earl Gray (I don’t like strong tea) and popped the infuser into my mug. I then filled it up with boiling water and let it brew for a couple of minutes.
I then removed the infuser and popped it into the base to catch the drips and my tea was ready. It was one of the best teas I’ve had in a long time – obviously that has nothing to do with the infuser itself but the fact that I could have loose leaf tea at work meant that I could finally have a decent cup of tea.
I did find a few bits of the tea leaves in the base of my mug. Nothing major but just something to note. The holes are quite small so it will only let very tiny bits through.
Overall this is one product I would recommend. It’s reasonably priced at under $10 and you will get a lot of use out of it.
