le-creuset-tarte-tatin-dishOkay, so just what is a tarte tatin? Well for those that don’t know, it’s an upside down apple tart. And basically the reasoning behind having a dish that is specifically made for tarte tatin is that it can be used to caramelize the apples on the stove top before placing in the oven to finish it off. So it saves you having to transfer the apple bit into another oven proof dish.

This is a very versatile pan however and you wouldn’t want to limit yourself to just cooking tarte tatin in this. Since the Le Creuset Cherry Tarte Tatin Dish can be used on the stove top you can pretty much cook anything in it but it is particularly good for browning or sauteing foods. And you could use this in the oven for any type of pie as well as quiches, cakes and any oven baked dishes.

You can also use this for marinating meats or even just as a serving tray for  h’ordeurves.

What We Like

  • It’s made from cast iron so heat retention and distribution is excellent.
  • The wide open handles make it easy to flip out those tarte tartin that you have baked.
  • It’s dishwasher safe.
  • It looks good enough to take straight to the table for serving.

This isn’t a cheap cookware set by any means but if you love cast iron then this will be the last set you ever own. Cast iron is strong and durable and should last you a lifetime.

The color choice is amazing including flame, cobalt blue, kiwi, dune, cherry, Caribbean and dijon. Each color is deep and rich. You’ll want to keep these out on show they look that good.

What We Like

  • The enamel coating is chip resistance.

What We Don’t Like

Le Creuset 2.5 qt saucierI have to admit I am a bit of a fan of Le Creuset cookware. It’s strong, durable and looks so damn good. The only drawback is that it is a little pricey but these pans will last you a lifetime if looked after correctly.

The Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Saucier Pan is a beautiful piece of cookware. It’s available in a variety of colors including red (pictured) cobalt blue , kiwi, cherry, dune, dijon, flame, chestnut and Caribbean blue.

This saucier pan is made from enamel cast iron. This enables you to get all the benefits of cast iron but without the hassle of maintaining it by having to season it on a regular basis.

Cast iron heats evenly and retains heat for longer periods than most other cookware materials.

What We Like

  • It’s oven safe (including the knobs on the lid) to 400F so will go straight from stove top to oven without having the hassle of transferring foods to an oven proof dish.
  • It works on gas, electric, ceramic and induction stove tops.
  • The pan is dishwasher safe.

Other Things to Consider

  • This is a heavy piece of cookware but this is nothing new to cast iron cookware.
