Review: Black & Decker EHC650 3-Cup 2-Speed Food Chopper

black-decker-2-speed-food-chopperHow many times have you found yourself needing to chop up some veggies for a dish you were making and you didn’t want to pull out the food processor. While there was a good amount to cut up, there wasn’t enough to warrant a whole food processor set up.

This is where the Black & Decker EHC650 3-Cup 2-Speed Food Chopper can step in and be the hero.

The Black & Decker  2-Speed Food Chopper can easily chop up to three cups of ingredients in nothing flat. This is a great way to get those onions sliced or something pureed without having to bring in the big food processor.

This chopper can be used with just one hand. Rest your hand on the top and push the button with the same hand.

Since this chopper is small and compact, it can be sitting on the counter all the time, waiting for the next time you need it.

The 150 watts backing up the stainless steel blade makes quick work of whatever is put into it.

Additionally, it comes with a non-slide base that will keep the machine still when you are cutting your food items up.

What We Like:

  • The construction and power button allow you to mix with one hand while doing something else with the other free hand.
  • The base has an anti-slip strip to keep it in place while mixing.
  • It’s compact but powerful, not taking up a lot of space but able to chop things quickly.
  • It’s perfect when you are preparing meals for one or two.
  • The rubber base doubles as a storage lid. Anything you have chopped that you don’t use can be left in the container and  popped into the fridge.

Other Things to Consider:

  • Sometimes food gets caught around the blade and some of the other smaller parts  which can be difficult to get out since you are not allowed to submerge it in water.

However, the majority of  reviewers just love this chopper. It does a great job of chopping up the food.

Review: Revere 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set

revere-3-piece-mixing-bowl-setOne mixing bowl in the kitchen is never enough. At the same time you don’t want a stack of them that can’t fit together as that just means more shelf space you are going to lose in those kitchen cabinets.

Instead, consider the Revere 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set to serve all of your mixing needs while still being able to stack inside one another and not take up too much space.

This set of stainless bowls comes in three sizes:-

  • 1 Quart
  • 2 Quart
  • 3 Quart.

Each bowl also comes with a matching plastic lid that you can pop on the top so they can immediately become a storage container to save some of what you mixed up for later.

The stainless steel construction means these will allow you a lot of use, and even a lot of abuse in the kitchen.  The stainless steel is strong enough to handle mixers and other rough use. When it comes to clean up, they are also easy enough to care for as you can throw them in the dishwasher and let it do all of the work.

What We Like

  • That they are dishwasher safe which makes clean up easier
  • The rings on the side of the bowl make it easy to hold the bowl in place while mixing.
  • This is a great value for the three bowls you get.
  • The lids make these a great and easy way to store foods that you didn’t finish without having to dirty up yet another piece of kitchenware.

Other things to consider:

  • The lids are for storage only and should not be placed in the microwave.
  • Be sure to check the sizes as these bowls are smaller than they look in the picture.  So just check to make sure the sizes suit the purpose you buy them for.

Review:Progressive International Heavy Duty Nut Chopper

progressive-internation-heavy-duty-nut-chopperWhether you are making cookies, sundaes or your own peanut butter, you need a way to chop up a lot of nuts for some recipes. The Progressive International Heavy Duty Nut Chopper may be the answer you are looking for.

When it comes to simplicity, the Progressive International Heavy Duty Nut Chopper wins hands down. Put the nuts that need to be chopped in the top, turn the crank and watch the stainless steel blades spin around inside the container and make quick work of the nuts you have loaded. Then you can follow the nut pieces as they fall through to the measuring cup that is the bottom of the grinder. When your chopped pieces get to the measurement you need, you’re done. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Additionally, the creators thought of practical problems when they created this design. The bottom has a non-skid area so it will stay put as you use your arm power to turn the crank and chop the nuts.

What We Like:

The chopper allows variety from thick and coarse nut pieces to a very fine chop.

As the nuts chop they fall into a cup that has measurements on the wall so you know how much you have made.

If there is a lefty in your kitchen they will appreciate that the handle is made to be used by either left handed or right handed cooks.

It’s a great price for what it does.

Other things to consider:

You may find that it grinds a little to well in some instances and end up with quite a bit of very fine grindings,  one reviewer has stated that to combat this, turn the grinder one way to get coarse grindings and the other way to get finer result.

Review: Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Lid

calphalon-commercial-hard-anodized-everyday-pan-with-lidThis is the  Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan that has 2 loop handles and a lid.

This pan is well named because you will find yourself using it everyday. It can be used for just about anything.

It’s not as shallow as an omelet pan and not as deep as a wok so it’s great for roasting a chicken, frying chops or steaming vegetables. You can also cook an omelet in it, stir fry or sauté. If you leave the lid on your can even make a pot roast in it.

It’s also great for taking straight to the table as it looks so good, so that cuts down on the need for additional dishes and additional cleanup.

As it’s such a good price and a good size for cooking for one to four people, it would be a great gift for anyone leaving home, starting a new home or getting married. It’s like having several items of cookware all in one.

The shape of the pan gives it more space than a 3 quart sauté pan and because the sides are flared, it’s easy to get a spatula under the food to turn it over. The domed lid also increases the capacity so it’s great for one-pot meals.

Some people have complained that food sticks to this pan but the trick is to preheat the empty pan and then when it’s at the temperature that you want, add your oil and ingredients.

So stop meat sticking,  if you just let it brown until it’s caramelized, it will then release itself from the pan.

This pan shouldn’t go into a dishwasher as it will ruin the surface. To clean off stubborn burnt on food, just add hot water to the hot pan, scrape gently with a soft brush and the residue will dissolve. You may find that t’s better not to use too much soap. Just like cast iron, anodized aluminum will become more seasoned the more you cook with it. However, it’s easier to care for than cast iron because if you do have to give it a good cleaning, you don’t need to re-season it.

It seems strange at first to not have a long handle but in fact, the two small stay-cool handles are much easier. This pan goes from stove top to oven so the two small handles fit better and make it easier and safer to lift out of the oven. It’s also easier to pick up a full pan with two hands than one and you’re less likely to drop it or tip it and spill the contents.

Once you have this pan, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it!
