Review: Circulon 16inch NonStick Roasting Pan with Rack

circulon-16-inch-rectangular-nonstick-roasting-panThis is the Circulon 16-Inch Rectangular Nonstick Roaster with rack measuring approximately 16½ x 3¾ x 13½ inches.

“Because this pan is made from heavy-gauge hard-anodized aluminum, it is great for cooking at high heats and is very durable. The quality of this pan is great. It feels very sturdy and because the strongly riveted handles face up on the sides, it is quite easy to put it into a very hot oven (and take out again!) without catching your wrists on the sides of the oven…which many of us do, even while wearing oven mitts!

The roaster is oven safe up to 500 degrees so this is a big help!

The rack that comes with the pan is great for keeping poultry or meat off the bottom of the pan. This lets the hot air flow all the way around the food. It also means that the fat and juices can drip freely into the base of the pan and you can then put the pan on the stove top to make delicious gravy. Because it’s got a non-stick surface, just be careful to use silicon or wood utensils if you’re making gravy in the roaster.

Also, because the food hasn’t been sitting in the fatty juices, it doesn’t get a ‘soggy bottom’ and stays dry. You can even flip it over towards the end of cooking to crisp up the bottom!

If you don’t like using a rack, this pan scores points too, as it has high and low grooves that protect the nonstick surface.

Also, because this pan is good and deep, it can easily handle a large amount of drippings from the meat. If you don’t want to make gravy straight away, it’s easy to pour the fat and juices into a heat-proof jug as the grease doesn’t seem to drip down and back on the sides of the roaster, as we have often found when trying to pour liquids out of regular pots and pans. This is not only helpful and safer but makes cleanup easier too.

This roaster can take up to a 25 lb turkey so that gives you some idea of its’ capacity! Great for Thanksgiving…

When it comes to cleaning this pan, the rack is non-stick too, so that the food releases easily from it, leaving minimal stickiness behind. The non-stick surface means that it can’t go into the dishwasher but again, because it’s non-stick, cleanup isn’t too hard. For really hard stuck on food,  just put some hot soapy water into the roaster andleave it on a low simmer on the stove top for ten minutes and the stuck on bits will just float off.

Roasters aren’t the most glamorous things to buy for your kitchen but if you invest in a good one like this, you’ll never look back!”

Review: Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender

oster-6684-12-speed-blenderWho doesn’t want to have the ability to make delicious smoothies or frozen daiquiris from time to time?

If you are the house where everyone comes for the Friday night parties or other social events, a blender that can make these types of drinks is a must have accessory in the kitchen.

With a 450-watt motor, theOster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black can handle nearly any items you want to blend up. This mixer also comes with 12 speeds so you can control the blending rate and intensity of the ingredients you are putting into the pitcher.

One reason a lot of people avoid a blender is because they hate the clean up process. Its not any fun to have to get inside the pitcher and try to clean out all the pieces of fruit that may be stuck to the walls and the blades. That is not a problem with this blender as it can be put right in the dishwasher, saving you a lot of scrubbing.

The jar on this blender will also let you mix up a lot of drinks at a time, with a 5-cup capacity.

What We Like

  • The variety of speeds that let you blend to your needs.
  • The fact that it has a specific ice crusher control for making those iced drinks.
  • It comes with a sturdy glass jar instead of plastic like many other blenders use.
  • The jar is not only is a great place to blend, but also has a pouring spout and handle to be an easy to use pitcher.
  • It is easy to clean up after using as the jar can go right into the dishwasher.
  • The ice crusher is stainless steel
  • Has an all metal drive system for durability

Review: Cuisinart Chefs Classic Stainless Sauté Pan

cuisinart-chefs-classic-saute-pan1This is  Cuisinart Chef’s Classic Saute Panwith lid.

“For starters, this pan has been endorsed by a French Chef named Paul Bocuse, who is not as famous as Rachael Ray, Emeril, Paula Deen or other TV chefs. But he is the only restaurateur in the world who has been given 3 Michelin stars for over 36 years in a row! That is quite a record so the man knows good cookware!

Once you use this pan, it’s easy to understand his endorsement as it really is an outstanding piece of cookware. It’s beautifully made and is also a perfect size. Because it is professional quality, it’s heavy but the two riveted handles (one is long and the other is a looped ‘helper’ handle) makes it quite easy to pick up.

Because it has an aluminum core in its’ base, it conducts heat amazingly well  so you need to remember not to use high heat to avoid the food burning.

It weighs much less than cast-iron or anodized aluminum but is every bit as good at conducting heat fast and evenly.

As the pan is all metal, it can be used to sear food or start it off on the stove top and then put it straight into the oven – up to 550 degrees, which is the one of the highest heats I have seen for a stove-top to oven pan.

It also has deep sides which makes it great for collecting meat drippings and juices for making into gravy, again straight back onto the stove top. The deep sides also make it wonderful for soups and stews as well. It’s a very user-friendly pan for someone who loves to cook!

Size wise, it is odd as it doesn’t feel over-large when cooking for two people but it can easily accommodate food for eight.

Clean up is a breeze and it can even go in the dishwasher. It’s also safe in the freezer!

I have noticed some reviewers being disappointed that this pan is made in China, but the quality is excellent. I’m sure it will last for many years and it has a lifetime warranty.

If I could change one thing, I would have the lid made of glass so that you can see the contents as they cook but that is a very minor niggle.

This is such a great all-round pan that you will use again and again. Cuisinart say that it will keep its’ mirror like shine too. That remains to be seen, but this is one pan you will be very happy with and will wonder how you ever  managed without it!”

Review:Rachael Ray 8qt Hard Anodized Oval Pasta Pot

Like most home cooks I have always cooked my pasta using a traditional pasta pot that is vertical with a strainer insert.

And anyone who uses the vertical pot to cook pasta knows how easily they boil over and how you have to break ‘long’ pasta to fit inside.

Well I want to introduce you to the pasta pot of your dreams.

The  Rachael Ray 8-Quart Hard-Anodized Covered Oval Pasta Pot with the funky orange handles has a sensible oval shape means that you don’t have to break up your pasta and you don’t have to wait around for one end to soften so that you can push the dry ends into the boiling water, nearly scorching your fingers. Simply submerge your pasta and get on with your life – why did no-one think of this before?

Another great feature is that the pot has a pouring spout on the side so all you do is leave the lid on and drain it straight into the sink. No more burning your fingers  or losing some of the precious pasta in the sink when you are in a hurry and don’t take the time toreach for a strainer.

The pasta stays warm in the pot and if you add sauce, you have plenty of room to toss the pasta without half of it landing up on your stove top.

It is a great pot for every day use as you can use it to also cook soups, roasts, stir fries and casseroles. It’s safe in the oven up to 400 degrees making it a good all-rounder. The large size is great too. In fact, this pot has so much room that you  find yourself adding a lot more vegetables than you usually would so you will be eating healthier as well!

The pot is a good weight. It’s not lightweight but not so heavy that it’s difficult to lift when full, which is good when you’re walking to the sink carrying a large pot of boiling water! While we’re on that subject, the zingy orange silicon handles are give you an excellent hold as they stay cool and you can grip them firmly.

It has a non-stick interior so it can’t go into the dishwasher but it really is easy to clean so this isn’t a drawback.

There are just two points to be aware of. Because the pot is so large, you need to watch that the handles aren’t positioned over another heat source, if you’re using more than one at the time.

Also, if you have a small  cooking ring, you may need to stir the pot a little more often to make sure that all of the contents gets to the heat. As the pot is anodized aluminum, it conducts heat brilliantly so this really isn’t a big problem but it’s just something to be aware of.

In summary, another winner from Rachael Ray who manages to combine great performance with good looks…and her cookware isn’t bad either!”
