Cooking Without My Jamie Oliver Tefal Cookware

jamie-oliver-grill-panI am currently out at our property in Tara, Queensland which is in a rural area far from what I consider to be the civilized world. My husband felt we were bringing quite enough stuff so I had to leave behind my Jamie Oliver frypan and skillet. It’s not that I am without the necessary utensils to create a meal, I have my Sunbeam electric frypan, turbo oven and an assortment of cheap brand frypans and saucepans, Weber and gas range. It’s just that now I have moved up to the better quality cookware I really miss all it’s great features.

After all Jamie Oliver cookware has a fantastic non-stick finish which means even the eggs don’t stick to the pan. Believe me the horrible mess of eggs I am serving up at the moment is not a pretty sight. Everything sticks to the cheap frypan and burns in parts even with the heat turned right down. This is something I am no longer used to as my T-Fal frypan has a red spot that lets me know when the pan is at the right temperature to add food and because of the conductivity of the metal used, it reacts quickly to changes in temperature.

Not only does my lovely Jamie Oliver cookware make cooking a breeze, it also washes up quickly and easily. A task that is not quite so easily undertaken with the cheap homebrand frypan.

So as much as I am enjoying the peace and quiet, the goannas, the ducks, the kangaroos bouncing over the paddock and sitting by the fish filled dam, I am missing my great new cookware.

Speaking of Goanna’s, this fellow came to visit while I was sitting out by the dam, throwing bread to the fish. I have been told that they make great eating but I am content just to take his photograph.

‘Jamie’s Kitchen’ and Other Jamie Oliver Cookbooks

Jamie Oliver is a well know television chef who has a range of fantastic cookware.

He has written a number of books including ‘The Naked Chef’ and ‘Jamie’s Kitchen’ which is complimentary to his television show in which he gave 15 unemployed kids a chance to be chefs and he also helps them to open a restaurant.

Jamie’s Kitchen  provides clear advice and features over 100 recipes from the Cookery House and the restaurant.

I have a couple of Jamie Oliver cookbooks and I find them to be very inspiring. The recipes are easy to follow with clear instructions, and the dishes are made from ingredients that my family eat.

And as anyone who reads this blog knows, I have four fabulous pieces of Jamie Oliver cookware which have changed my whole outlook to cooking.  They are so easy to use and to clean up.

Jamie Oliver Tefal Non-Stick Frypan

I recently brought a Jamie Oliver Professional Series, non-stick Tefal frypan and so far I am delighted with the performance.

I read a number of reviews before I settled on my final choice and considering I was spending around $200 I wanted to be sure I purchased the best my money could buy.

Apart from the obvious choice of the frypan being non-stick there were other features that I was looking for. The pan had to have nice deep sides and the whole frypan including the handle had to be both stove and ovenproof safe.

Some of the features of the Jamie Oliver frypan include:

  • The frypan is made from 18/10 stainless-steel so it resists scratching and warping
  • The metal does not react with foods
  • The pan has a heavy-gauge aluminum core base for superior heat distribution
  • And the metal-safe nonstick coating is safe to use with metal utensils, although I still use my nylon spatula and tongs
  • The frypan has an easy to hold stainless-steel handle

The pan also has a ThermoSpot, whick is Tefal’s unique heat indicator that lets you know when the pan is preheated for cooking.

The frypan is dishwasher-safe and easy to clean and as an added bonus the frypan and handle are oven-safe to 260°C/500°F.

I have read how the non-stick coating can be harmful but this is only if you cook at very high temperatures for any length of time and your food will be well and truly burnt to a crisp by the time your frypan coating starts to release any harmful fumes.

Like most followers of Jamie, I feel he can be trusted and the fact that he has had a great deal of input into his range of cookware makes me feel confident in my choice. He uses his cookware on his current television series and subjects them to some amazing things including putting them in his outdoor oven. He also quite happily uses metal utensils on the non-stick coating.

Since I am so happy with the frypan I am considering buying the skillet.
