Calphalon One 10 Piece NonStick
Cookware Set Review

If you are looking for a cookware set that allows for even searing and browning and easy clean up then this is the set for you. The Calphalon One range of cookware is strong and durable with a cooking surface that prevents foods from sticking and reduces the staining that you often see on non-stick surfaces.
What We Like
I personally use Calphalon One cookware and love it's good looks, super easy clean-up (I don't have a dishwasher) and how well foods cook in these pans.
The
Calphalon One NonStick range of cookware is manufactured with a
revolutionary nonstick surface which is made up of four non-stick
interlocking layers combined with a hard anodized outer surface. I am
yet to have anything stick to this cookware and I have even cooked rice
dishes in it which can be notorious for sticking. The photo above
shows a
chicken and seafood paella that we cooked up in one of the
Calphalon One
Non Stick Sauté Pans.
This set comes with 2 fry pans, a skillet, stockpot, a sauce pan and a
chefs pan. Every piece comes complete with a matching lid except of
course for the fry pans. This set really has everything you will ever
need in a cookware set.
Calphalon claim that there is no need to use oil on these pans which is
perfect if you are on a low fat diet. I haven't actually tried this
because personally I like the flavor and texture that a bit of oil
imparts to a dish so I can't really comment on how effective this is.
I really like the clear glass lids which allow you to view food while it
is cooking. This prevents the loss of heat which often happens when you
are constantly removing the lid to see how a dish is progressing.
The main thing I really love about the Calphalon One NonStick range is
the effortless clean up. Unfortunately you can’t place these
pots and
pans in the dishwasher but you really only need a soft dish cloth and
some warm soapy water and the food just comes off easily. I don't have
to spend time trying to scrub the pans. It's usually just a few wipes
with the dish cloth and the pan is clean.
These pans are oven safe and can withstand high temperatures – up to
500F – but
remember that the lids are only able to withstand temperatures up to
450F. This means you can transfer foods straight from stovetop to your
oven for further cooking. It saves on using a separate pan and having to
transfer the food over.
The handles have been triple riveted and we found them to be well
balanced for comfortable use. These are relatively heavy pans so most of
them come with a second riveted handle to provide greater control which
is especially useful when lifting them from the stove. The handles are
made of stainless steel and stay cool on the stovetop. The handles will
get hot in the oven however.
I've found that the Calphalon One range of cookware requires a lower
heat setting than would be found on poorer
quality cookware. This is
because it is constructed of heavy gauge aluminum which means that the
cookware heats and cools a lot quicker. You need to get used to using a
lower temperature with this quality cookware otherwise you may find
yourself burning foods.
What We Don't Like
The cookware can be heavy and
with a pot full of food it is even heavier. However, I generally equate
a heavy pot or pan with quality and these pots and pans hit the mark
perfectly. The dual handles on most of the pots and pans in this range
also make it easier to lift them.
This set is not dishwasher safe so may disappoint those who don’t like
to hand wash. However, you will be pleasantly surprised at just how easy
these pans are to clean so don’t let the fact that they must be hand
washed put you off. Ensure you don't place your Calphalon One cookware
in the dishwasher as it will damage the surface and also void your
warranty.
These pots and pans are not broiler safe which is a shame so browning
the tops of any dishes is out of the question. However there is always
the oven and this range of cookware is oven safe to 500F.
What Others Are Saying
There was a concern by a few
reviewers about the non-stick layer chipping and scratching but these
were all from consumers who had purchased their Calphalon One a number
of years ago. Once consumer even mentioned that when they took their
cookware back they compared it to the same set in the shop and noticed
how different the nonstick surface appeared compared to the set they
owned and were now returning. This indicates that Calphalon were aware
of the fault and have worked on improving the non-stick surface.
Many
were amazed with how easy this set is to clean and how foods just don't
stick.
Durability and good looks were also mentioned by a number of reviewers.
We have to agree - this is one good looking set of cookware and will
display nicely from a pot rack.
One reviewer commented that it was the best cookware she had ever used. Another mentioned that the non-stick surface stood up to wear better than anything they had ever used before.
The most common comments related to ease of clean up, quick and efficient heating and overall good looks.
